Construction Supervision

Summary from Contractor

The Contractor's site construction progress for the month of March was significantly improved over preceding months. Most of the control cable that was not ordered because of Contractor procurement errors arrived in February although some LV and MV cable remained to be delivered. Other materials including fire resistant cable joint kits, some flexible metallic conduit, and inverter panels remain to be delivered. The major outstanding item for delivery is the Radio Rebroadcast system that will not be delivered until June with the exception of the antenna (leaky coaxial cable) inside the tunnel.

During March S/S#5, 4, 1 and were energised (in that order) from the main 22kV switchboard in the OCC. These were major milestones. The remaining substations, with the exception of S/S8 at STP, will be energised in April.

Installation of road lighting pole foundations along the south road was substantially completed, as was the erection of the 9m poles and pole top luminaires. Tunnel overhead works were limited to cable ladder crossings at EP and VAC intersections with main tunnel, installation of brackets for the support of radio rebroadcast (RRB) coaxial antenna, fire sensor cable, and CCTV camera supports. Conduit and boxes continue to be installed in VAB as PKIV work progresses.

Detailed design continued in ABB Finland on the radio rebroadcast (RRB) system was completed with factory testing scheduled in late May. Factory acceptance tests (FAT) were completed in early March in Finland fire alarm system and hardware arrived on site in late March.

Overseas Training began in Finland on 21st. February and was completed in March.

Commissioning engineers from Sabik (Traffic control system) and additional engineers from ABB arrived on site in March. Commissioning began in February and will continued throughout March. It will continue in April and May.

Physical Progress in this month

Installation of main LV switchboard, UPS, battery systems, and all other major items installation completed in all substations. The packaged substation (compact substation) was placed on its plinth at S/S#8 (STP).

Installation of variable message signs (VMS) began in late February at north portal and NTP and was completed at STP and inside the tunnel in March.  Emergency telephone installation inside the tunnel in niches began and was approximately 50% completed.

Installation of PDMC, RTU, telecommunication panels, and traffic control panels was carried out in substations No. 2, 3, 6,7 and 8. Control room furniture was installed and workstation with associated panels installed in the OCC for traffic control, telecommunication, PDMC, and main SCADA.
