Construction Supervision

Summary from Contractor

The Contractor's site construction progress for the month of December has improved with the progressive handing over of substation buildings from PKIV.  Handed over were S/S#1, 4, 3 and 2. S/S#5 was turned over in early August and OCC, S/S#7 and 8 have been available since April 2004.  Most low voltage equipment and supports has been installed in S/S#5 and installation of 22kV switchgear (GIS) completed in all tunnel substations. Installation of road lighting pole foundations along the south road was substantially completed as was the erection of the 9m poles and pole top luminaires. Tunnel overhead works were limited to cable ladder crossings at EP and VAC intersections with main tunnel, installation of brackets for the support of radio rebroadcast (RRB) coaxial antenna, fire sensor cable, and CCTV camera supports. Conduit and boxes continue to be installed in VAB as PKIV work progresses.

Medium voltage (MV) cable pulling began at the end of October in the main tunnel and continued in the ventilation adit and on Lang Co bridge. Approximately 90% of MV cable joints in the main tunnel have been done.

Design work at site continues on the preparation and submittal of installation shop drawings. Detailed design continued in ABB Finland on systems (Fire alarm, and radio rebroadcast (RRB).  Factory acceptance tests (FAT) were completed in early October in Finland on traffic control, lighting control, power distribution control, and main SCADA systems and on systems integration.  This equipment has not yet arrived on site.

PKIII took over maintenance of PKV works as provided for under their contract in May and were to negotiate to sub-contracted this work to HAMADECO. However HAMADECO declined to sign PKIII sub-contract agreement citing unacceptable insurance clauses.  These clauses were copied from PKIII contract documents. PKIII will continue with maintenance of PKV works without sub-contractor.
