Construction Supervision

Summary

During the reporting period 79.4m of Evacuation Tunnel and 137.4m of Main Tunnel Top Heading was excavated, giving a total length of 2379.3m of Evacuation Tunnel and 2396.7m of Main Tunnel Top Heading excavated to date.

Bench excavation continued with 178m being excavated on the West Side and 129.4m excavated on the East Side.

Tunnel lining continued with 10m of main tunnel, 54.9m of layby and 26m of Electrostatic Precipitator completed.

Work commenced on the Evacuation Tunnel cut and cover section.

Overall a poor months progress, slightly down in the main tunnel excavation, but down around 30% in the Evacuation Tunnel.

The Main Tunnel is just over 1m from the PKIA/IB contract boundary.  To reduce PKIA delay a subcontract agreement was signed on June 28 2003 for PKIB to excavate and primary support 450m of PKIA tunnel.

The Main Tunnel is on schedule and the Evacuation Tunnel 5 weeks behind.

Main Tunnel

A total of 137.4m of Main Tunnel Top Heading was excavated over the reporting period, giving a total length of 2396.7m of Main Tunnel Top Heading excavated to date.

Face No.7:  

– 137.4m of Top Heading excavated from St. 2+259.3 to St. 2+396.7

Bench excavation

– 146m of bench excavated from St. 1+834 to St. 1+980 and 32m from St. 2+012 to St. 1+980 (West side).

– 112.1m of bench excavated from St. 1+793.5 to St. 1+905.6 and 17.3m from St. 1+990 to St. 2+007.3 (East side)

The large geological overbreak between St. 2+119.5 and St. 2+124.5 was backfilled with concrete.

Electrostatic Precipitator 

- Excavated 71.5m of bench from St. 0+076.25 to St. 0+147.78

Tunnel Lining

Concrete for Foundation Beam –99.5m Fr. St. 1+679.4 to St. 1+778.9   (West Side)

Concrete for Foundation Beam –129.9m Fr. St. 1+ 718.6 to St. 1+848.2 (East Side)

Concrete for Tunnel Lining – 10m (1 block) from St. 6+257.555 to St. 6+267.555

Concrete Lining of layby 54.9m (9 blocks)

Concrete lining for EP 26m

Backfill grouting of tunnel lining from block 36-65

Concrete for east side duct bank – 540m

Evacuation Tunnel

A total of 79.4m of Evacuation Tunnel was excavated from St. 2+299.9 to St. 2+379.3 over the reporting period. Giving a total length of 2379.3m of tunnel excavated to date.
