Summary from Contractor The Concrete Lining for Standard Section of the Main Tunnel completed 3,847.00m (progress 99.99%), and the remaining, cut and cover part, is anticipated to complete in next month. In the Evacuation Tunnel, the casting of he side drainage slab cover was on going at part No.1 of Grp#1 at Sta 2+955 - Sta: 5+500, Grp#2 at Sta 1+653 - Sta 1+807. The casting of side drainage slab cover for side drainage completed this month giving a total length of 2699.00 meters. The Ventilation Adit Concrete Lining completed on April 21, 2004. Tunnel Rear Works (Concrete Works)
The Main Tunnel Concrete Lining completed up to the end of April month totaled to 3,847.00m (Progress: 99.99%). The remaining L= 10m ( Portal cut and cover part), will be finished next month.

The conduit duct bank concreting under the walkway structure has been commenced from station 1+691.55 and reached to station 5+500, giving a length of 3,808.45m.

The base concreting works has been completed from station 1+669.70 to station 5+160.0m and from station 5+260 to station 5+500, totaling a length of 3,730.3m. Concreting of sidewall was also started on the same station and reached to station 5+160.0 and from station 5+206 to station 5+500.00 with a total length 3,730.3m. The casting concrete of hydrant pipe saddle inside the walkway structure was also simultaneously executed with a base concrete starting from the same station and reaching to station 5+500 totaling 3,830.3m. On May 20, 2004, a joint site inspection between the Consultant and contractors Package IA, III and IV was held prior to handing over. The west side walkway structure was transferred by PKIA to III/IV and east side duct bank to PKIII both Zone I and J1 from station 4+910 to Station 5+470 though it was agreed that some minor items were needed to correct on both sides.

This month of May 2004, the contractor had no schedule for performing proof rolling test for sub-grade. The approved area from previous month started from station 1+770 until station 5+500 with a total length of 3,730.0meters.(Progress:99%).
The contractor Cienco 6 continues to carry out the spreading of the first and second layers of the base course and its compaction starting from station 1+780 to 5+500 of both sides. Prior to the second layer spreading, the Engineer requires the contractor to perform field density test at every 200meters distance per point for quality checking and to follow the requirement of Technical Specifications, Section 02580-Aggregate Sub-base and Base Course. The Field Density Test for the first layer has a good result. This month, the FDT for the second layer was also performed and has a good rate for the compaction test and moisture rating content. The Engineer also instructs the contractor to conduct Benkelman Test with electro-mechanical measuring device from/conducted by Danang Laboratory for the final second layer of base course. All testing of base course materials has been performed at Danang Laboratory with the presence of Consultant Engineer and that materials test results were satisfactory passed and accepted by the Engineer, The remaining 137.0 metters
The concrete pavement for standard section of the Main tunnel, was started from station 1+802 to station 5+500 totaling 2600meters. The concrete pavement works for Lay-by Right side No. 2,4,6,8,9,11 with a length of 174 metters were completed.
The concrete pavement for standard section of the Main tunnel, was started from station 3+430.00 – 5+500.00 totaling 2070.0 metters. The concrete pavement works for Lay-by Left side No. 7,10 with a length of 58 metters were completed.
Completed and Handed over to PKIII& PKIV on Mar 31,2004. Subgrade: was started from station:4+870.0 – 5+500.0 with totaling of 630.0 metters
The casting of concrete for cross passage doors completed No.2,3,4 Ventilation Adit Tunnel
The Concrete Lining for Cut and Cover Section, with Portal Wall, and two (2) blocks of Normal Section of Lining Concrete connecting to the Cut and Cover Section were completed with a total length of 13.97m from Station 1+738.54 to 1+752.51.
The Ventilation Adit Concrete Lining completed on Apr 21,2004, including Cut and Cover Section together with its connection to the normal section and enlargement section, Totaled to 1,887.62m (Progress: 100%).
The installation of 300mm dia. Perforated Concrete Pipe had been started at station 0-066.83 and, this month, reached to station 1+752.51 with total length of 1,819.34 metters including setting/connection of pre-cast concrete manhole No.1 at the bottom part of VA intersection of Exhaust Shaft Section.
Construction of foundation together with the first lift 0.60m of the center wall had been started at station 0-071.05 and this month reached to station 1+714.64, totaling 1,785.69metters. The second lift Center Wall commenced at the bottom VA station -071.05 and reached to 1+192.77 with a total length for Form No.1 and 2 is 1,263.82metters.
Subgrade of Road: The contractor carried out the spreading of the Subgrade and its compaction Starting from Station – 71.05 to 0+874.12 of Right side with total length of 945.17 metters. Base – course of Road: Starting from Station - 19.05 to 0+874.12 of Right side with Total length of 883.17 meters. Pavement works: The contractor carried out pouring concrete pavement starting from station 0-65.05 – 0+447.72 of Right side with totaling of 512.77 meters. Safety at Work: At 11h on June 24,2004 while transferring form for concreting work of partition wall, a worker was killed by suddenly slid form. The reason and consequence of the accident have been stated in detail at the meeting with the Consultant and the Employer right after that on June 25,2004. Conclusion: The Contractor proposed countermeasures to ensure safety in concreting work, especially in form move which was accepted by the Consultant. At present, concreting work of partition wall has been executed ordinarily.
