Construction Supervision

Summary from Contractor

During the reporting month, the Concrete Lining for Standard Section of the Main Tunnel completed up to the end of this month totaled to 3,847.00m (progress 99.99%).

In the Evacuation Tunnel, the Contractor began the leveling concrete under the side drainage from station 1+653 to 5+500 with a total length of 3,847m. The casting of side drainage slab cover for side drainage completed this month has a total length of 649.00 meters.

The Ventilation Adit Concrete Lining completed on April 21, 2004.

Main Tunnel 

Main Tunnel - Concreting Works

The Main Tunnel Concrete Lining completed up to the end of last month totaled to 3,847.00m (Progress: 99.99%). The remaining L= 10m ( Portal cut and cover part).

  • East Side: (Left Side)

Cable Duct Bank:

Completed on 30/4/2004 with total length 3,847.00m. the remaining L=10m(Portal cut and cover part)   

Side Drainage/Catch Basin:

Completed on 30/4/2004 with total length 3,847.00m. the remaining L=10m(Portal cut and cover part)

  • West Side: (Right Side)

Cable Duct Bank:

The conduit duct bank concreting under the walkway structure has been commenced from station 1+691.55 and reached to station 5+500, giving a length of 3,808.45m. 

Side Drainage/Catch Basin:

Completed on 30/4/2004 with total length 3,847.00m. the remaining L=10(Potal cut and cover part)

  • Walkway Structure:

The base concreting works has been completed from station 1+669.70 to station 5+160.0m and from station 5+260 to station 5+500, totaling a length of 3,730.3m. Concreting of sidewall was also started on the same station and reached to station 5+160.0 and from station 5+206 to station 5+500.00 with a total length 3,730.3m. The casting concrete of hydrant pipe saddle inside the walkway structure was also simultaneously executed with a base concrete starting from the same station and reaching to station 5+500  totaling 3,830.3m.

On May 20, 2004, a joint site inspection between the Consultant and contractors Package IA, III and IV was held prior to handing over. The west side walkway structure by PKIA to III/IV and east side duct bank for PKIII both Zone I and J1 from station 4+910 to Station 5+470. Although it was agreed that some minor items were needed to correct on both sides.

  • Main Drainage:

Completed from Station 1+653 – Station 5+500 totaled to 3,847metters, the maining L= 10m ( Portal cut and cover part).

  • MT Road Works

Sub-grade:

This month of May 2004, the contractor had no schedule for performing proof rolling test for sub-grade. The approved area from previous month started from station 1+770 until station 5+500 with a total length of 3,730.0meters.(Progress:99%).

Base Course:

The contractor’s joint venture Cienco 6 continues to carry out the spreading of the first and second layer of the base course and its compaction starting from station 1+780 to 5+500 both sides. Prior to the second layer spreading, the Engineer requires the contractor to perform field density test at every 200meters distance per point for quality checking and to follow the requirement of Technical Specifications, Section 02580-Aggregate Sub-base and Base Course. The Field Density Test for the first layer has a good result. This month, the FDT for the second layer was also performed and has a good rate for the compaction test and moisture rating content. The Engineer also instructs to the contractor to conduct Benkelman Test with electro-mechanical measuring device from/conducted by Danang Laboratory for the final second layer of base course.

All testing of base course materials has been performed at Danang Laboratory with the presence of Consultant Engineer and that materials test results were satisfactory passed and accepted by the Engineer.
  • Pavement works

West side (Right side):

The concrete pavement for standard section of the Main tunnel, which was started from station 1+802 to station 4+402 totaling 2600meters. The concrete paverment works for Lay-by Right side No. 2,4,6,8,9,11 with a length of 174metters were completed.

  • Electrostatic Precipitator No. 2:

Completed and Handed over to PKIII& PKIV – 31- MAR -04

Evacuation Tunnel

The casting of concrete for the Side Drainage completed from Sta:1+653 – Sta:5+500 giving a  total length of 3,847 meters remaining 10 meters ( Portal cut and cover part).

Side drainage slab cover: The casting of the side drainage slab cover was on going Part No. 1 of Grp #1at Sta 5+005 – Sta: 5+500, Grp# 2 at Sta 1+653 – Sta:1+807. The casting of side drainage slab cover for side drainage completed this month has a total length of 649.00 metters.

Ventilation Adit Tunnel

  • Concreting Works:

Cut and Cover Section / Connection Lining Concrete at Portal:

The Concrete Lining for Cut and Cover Section, with Portal Wall, and two (2) blocks of Normal Section of Lining Concrete connected to the Cut and Cover Section were completed with a total length of 13.97m from Station 1+738.54 to 1+752.51

Lining Concrete:

The Ventilation Adit Concrete Lining completed, including Cut and Cover Section together with its connection to the normal section and enlargement section, Totaled to 1,887.62m (Progress: 100%),Completed on 21-4-04.

Rear works:

Main Drainage:

The installation of 300mm dia. Perforated Concrete Pipe had been started at station 0-066.83 and, this month, reached to station 1+583.45 with total length of 1,650.28meters including setting/connection of pre-cast concrete manhole no.1 at the bottom part of VA intersection of Exhaust Shaft Section.

Center Wall Concrete:

Construction of foundation together with the first lift 0.60m of the center wall had been started at station 0-071.05 and this month reached to station 1+499.76, totaling 1,570.81meters.

The second lift Center Wall commenced at the bottom VA station -046.05 and reached to 0+881.94 with a total length for Form No.1 and 2 is  927.99meters.

Cable Duct Bank: Completed on 29-4-04

Subgrade of Road:

This month of May 2004 the contractor’s to carry out the spreading of the Subgrade and its compaction Starting from Station – 71.05 to 0+874.12 of Right side with total length  of 945.17 metters.

Base – course of Road:

Starting from Station  - 19.05 to 0+555.32 of Right side with Total length of 574.37 metters.

Pavement works:

The contractor will carry out next month.
