Construction Supervision

The Contractor has temporarily stopped the marking (setting out) of tunnel walls for lighting, fire alarm, radio, and CCTV because of modification works to installation scaffolding, additional scaffolding construction, and operation of paving machines by civil contractors. Installation of HDPE conduit supports under the tunnel walkway and southern bridges continues. There are some deficiencies in these installations and are being addressed by Contractor. Electrical installation work began in Substation No. 5 and on foundations for floodlight towers.

Design work at site has been the preparation and submittal of installation shop drawings. Detailed design continues in ABB Finland on systems (Fire alarm, communications, radio rebroadcast, traffic control, lighting control and main SCADA systems) and systems integration.

PKIII continues to participate in the hand over of sections of walkways and east side duct banks in the tunnel from the civil contractors. The hand over allows PKIII (and PKIV) access to install conduit in the trench under the walkways.

Coordination is still ongoing between PKIII and PKIV.

Routine factory tests were carried out in May on fibre optic and medium voltage, low voltage and fire resistant cables. The Contractor is beginning to receive equipment delivery from Europe including 22kV GIS switchboards and distribution transformers.

The Engineer identified the North and South portal plaza areas as critical civil construction areas to enable early installation of main electrical cables and early supply of power for ventilation fan testing. The civil contractors began work in early March (PK1B) and late March (PK1A) in those areas.
