Summary from Contractor During the reporting month, the pouring of Class D concrete for the Foundation Beam of the Lining Concrete continued this month from Station 5+326.5 to 5+500 on left side, totaling 173.5m and 192.0m on right side from Station 5+308 to 5+500. The Main Tunnel Concrete Lining completed up to the end of this month totaled to 3,520.44 (progress 91.27%). In the Evacuation Tunnel, the Contractor began the leveling concrete under the side drainage from station 1+740 to 3+590 with a total length 1,850m. The Ventilation Adit Concrete Lining completed, including Cut and Cover Section together with its connection to the normal section and enlargement section, up to the end of this month totaled to 1,469.52m (Progress 77.85%) Construction Supervision by Engineer Main Tunnel Concreting works This Month of February, the pouring of Class D concrete for the Foundation Beam of the Lining Concrete were already completed up to boundary line between North and South Section from Station 5+326.5 to 5+500 on left side, totaling 173.5m and 192.0m on right side from station 5+308 to 5+500. Installation of Mole Drain Pipes, together with filter cement aggregate, on both sides was also completed followed to the foundation beams. Cutting of Rock bolt heads and installation of geo-textile covers were done on areas with rock bolts. Installation of EVA Waterproofing Membrane was also continued following the covering of rock bolts. Until the end of this month, a total length of 3,747.5m (Station 1+664~4+988/5+017.5~5+441.5) was completely covered with waterproofing membrane. The Engineer continued to require testing of the welded joint sheets using air pressure test, as per procedure stated on the method statement, before continuation of the installation. Pouring of Concrete Lining was also carried out as per approved design segment. The Engineer carefully checked, during the joint survey with the contractor, the setting of the form for both bulkhead sides and the thickness as per design requirements. The Concrete Lining for Standard Section of the Main Tunnel completed until the end of this month totaled to 3,210.44 meters. The Concrete Lining works for Lay-by Left Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Lay-by Right Nos. 1, 2, 3,4,5 in Main Tunnel, totaling ten lay-bys with a length of 310.00m, were completed. The Main Tunnel Concrete Lining completed up to the end of this month totaled to 3, 520.44m (Progress: 91.27%). For cross passages, only the concrete lining for the blocks connected to the Main Tunnel are being executed. Concrete lining completed until the end of this month includes the Pedestrian Cross Passage No. 1~6 (Station 2+000, 2+400, 3+190, 3+688, 4+490, 4+870) and Vehicular Cross Passage No. 1~2 (Station 2+800, 4+100), totaling eight (8) Cross Passage with a length of 26.50m. Main Tunnel Rear Works (Concrete Works)
In the month of February 2004, the concrete works for the cable duct bank with manholes, including the installation of two (2) lines of embedded conduit pipe with a diameter of 110mm each, reaching to 3,102.00m up to station 4+633.
This month, the pouring of side drain and setting of pre-cast catch basins has been going on. Pouring of side drain, which was started from station 1+670.45, reached to station 4+633, totaling a length of 2,963m while for pre-cast catch basins, 121nos (to station 4+695) starting from no. 2 to no. 123 have been installed.
The conduit duct bank concreting under the walkway structure has been commenced from station 1+691.55 and reached to station 4+693.12, giving a length of 2,953.57m.
Casting on-site of side drainage on the west side of the Main Tunnel began at Station 1+670 and reached to Station 4+683 with a total length of 3,013m. The setting/installation of pre-cast catch basins were from no. 2 ~ 110, totaling 124nos. (to station 4+745).
This month, the pouring of walkway structure was continuing. The base concreting works has been completed from station 1+669.70 to station 4+530.0m, totaling a length of 2,860.5m. Concreting of sidewall was also started on the same station and reached to station 4+394.5 with a total length 2,705.00m. The casting concrete of hydrant pipe saddle inside the walkway structure was also simultaneously executed with a base concrete starting from the same station and reaching to station 4+502 a totaling 2,832.50m. On February 2, 2004, a joint site inspection between the Consultant and contractors Package IA, III and IV was held prior to handing over. The west side walkway structure by PKIA to III/IV and east side duct bank for PKIII both Zone E from station 3+203.5 ~ 3+703.5 Lay-by No.6. Although some minor items were needed to correct both side, nevertheless, agreed and handed over to E and M for their work’s access only.
The installation of 400mm-dia Perforated Concrete Pipe had been started at station 1+709.4 and reached to station 3+933 this month with total length of 2,223.6meters including setting/connection of pre-cast concrete manhole nos. 1~11 and connection of cross drain from PVC mole drain. Previous month of January 2004, the contractor makes another group for the installation of diameter 300mm concrete pipe were continuing starting at station 4+600 .45 to 4+697 with a total length 96.55m. Main Tunnel Road Works
Previous month of January 2004, the contractor submitted to the RE the method – Proof Rolling Test - for the testing of compacted sub-grade layer. This Rolling Test is being executed using 15-ton dump truck loaded with aggregates, weighing 32 tons in totality. End of January 2004, the contractor requested for initial/preliminary checking of the Rolling Proof test of sub-grade layer on the site from station 1+770 to Lay-by No. 4 (station 3+190) with the attendance of RE, Engineer, and Inspector. Although there were some minor comments, no sinking was observed on the sub-grade layer. The RE instructs to do the secondary checking at same station was schedule performing on this month. This month of February 2004, the secondary proof-rolling test for sub-grade was performed and approved starting from station 1+770 and continuing to station 3+703 Lay-by No.6 with a total length 1,933.0meters. The Engineer’s also instruct to the contractor to conduct Benkelman Test with instrument electro-mechanical measuring device from/conducted by Danang Laboratory and including 5-ton water truck, which carries minimum 7.2-ton. This testing also is common using and standard for Vietnam road construction. The testing required at every 250m witnessing by the Engineer and Inspector was completed between station 1+770 to 3+703 Lay-by No.6.
This month also, the contractor’s joint ventures Cienco 6 carry out the base course spreading first layer both side and compaction starting from station 1+780 ~ 2+240 on the right side and left side from station 1+780 ~2+280. Prior to this works, the RE required to the contractor to submit the Method of Construction including equipment, construction schedule and relevant to material testing requirements. In compliance with the requirement of Technical Specifications, Section 02580-Aggregate Sub-base and base materials for testing are:
All testing base course materials has been performed at Danang Laboratory with the present of Consultant Engineer and that materials test result was satisfactory passed and accepted by the Engineer.
From the previous month the foundation beam and mole drain were completed and this month for the waterproofing completion. The Lining Concrete was also started casting from block no.2 and following the block no.1 connection to Main Tunnel Standard Section. After completed the connection part were on going up to block no.22 station 0+118.11 giving total length 110.18m (progress: 80.25%). Evacuation Tunnel This month of February 2004 began the leveling concrete under the side drainage from station 1+740 to 3+590 with a total length 1,850m. The side drainage was also starting casting and the contractor makes two (2) groups, Grp.#1-sta.1+740 ~ 2+148 and Grp.#2-sta. 2+700 ~ 2+844 totaling 600meters. Ventilation Adit Tunnel
The Concrete Lining for Cut and Cover Section, with Portal Wall, and two (2) blocks of Normal Section of Lining Concrete connected to the Cut and Cover Section were completed with a total length 13.97m from Station 1+738.54 to 1+752.51.
Pouring
of Class D concrete for the Foundation Beam of the Enlargement Section
was previous months completed and Normal Section of Lining Concrete
were continuing and reached a total length of 1,723.61m (station 0-135.11~1+571.49)
on left side and 1,687.75m (station 0-135.11~1+535.63) on the right
side at the end of this month including Cut and Cover section. Exhaust
Shaft Section was completed in previous months. Installation of Mole Drain Pipes, together with filter cement aggregate, on both sides of the tunnel continued simultaneous with the foundation beams. Cutting of Rock bolt heads and installation of geo-textile covers were done on areas with rock bolts. Installation of EVA Waterproofing Membrane for Normal Section has been continuing this month from station 0-055.05 ~ 1+395 with a total length of 1,467.06m (included Cut and Cover Section). The installation waterproofing membrane on the Enlargement Section to Clean Air Supply and Exhaust Sections was also completed. Pouring of Concrete Lining was also carried out as per approved design segment. The Engineer carefully checked, during the joint survey with the contractor, the setting of the form for both bulkhead sides and the thickness as per design requirements. The Concrete Lining for Normal Section of the Ventilation Adit completed until the end of this month totaled to 1,389.46meters from block no.17 to 144 (0-055.05 ~ 1+330.44) and including block no.180 to 181 for Cut and Cover Section. Concrete lining from block 16 to 1 (0-055.05 ~ 0-135.11) of the Enlargement Section (Supply Sect.) was also completed, giving a total length of 80.06meters. The Exhaust Shaft Section Lining Concrete consist 5blocks that connects both side of VA and MT was completed. The Ventilation Adit Concrete Lining completed, including Cut and Cover Section together with its connection to the normal section and enlargement section, up to the end of this month totaled to 1,469.52m (Progress: 77.85%).
The installation of 300mm dia. Perforated Concrete Pipe had been started at station 0-066.83 and, this month, reached to station 1+058.43 with total length of 1,125.26meters including setting/connection of pre-cast concrete manhole no.1 at the bottom part of VA intersection of Exhaust Shaft Section.
Construction of foundation together with the first lift 0.60m of the center wall had been started at station 0-055.05 and this month reached to station 1+021.56, totaling 1,043.70meters. The Second Lift center wall was commencing at the bottom VA station 0-019.05~0+207.48 with a length total 226.53m.
This Month of February 2004, the pouring of concrete for cable duct bank continuing according to the revised design and location approved by the Engineer’s from the station 0-077.05 ~ 0-0106.49 with total length 29.44m Enlargement Section.
