Date:
June 04, 2005
A
newly constructed tunnel through the Hai Van Pass opened to traffic
yesterday on an experimental basis before its official inauguration on
Sunday. The 12.18km tunnel, built 1,172m above sea level, will link Lang
Co in Thua Thien-Hue to the north with Da Nang to the south. Work on the
tunnel underneath Viet Nam’s longest and most dangerous mountain pass
began in April 2001.
