company adds colour to new tunnel

NOI — Local manufacturer LQ Joton said last Friday it beat 10
international bidders to a contract to paint the northern part of the
Hai Van tunnel.
The
company has already begun work on the VND2 billion (US$127,000) project
– which includes painting 20,000sq.m of the tunnel and 20 tonnes of
paint – to be completed next month, according to its general director,
Tang Thien Dinh.
More
than 100 workers are working on the job, he said.
"We
are very proud to be [associated with] Viet Nam’s largest tunnel and
it will help us expand our business worldwide," he said.
The
$251 million tunnel, in the central city of Da Nang, will become one of
the world’s 30 largest tunnels when complete, measuring 6.7km long,
11.9m wide, with a clearance of 4.95m, and with a 4.7m-wide emergency
tunnel.
Began
in August 2000, it is due to be completed this year and will be capable
of taking 30-tonne vehicles. — VNS
