Da completes southern section of Hai Van tunnel early

Song
Da Construction Corporation has completed its work on the southern
section of the underground tunnel through the Hai Van Pass four months
ahead of schedule.
The
work, part of the 1B package, was completed at 5pm on June 30, with
completion of drilling for the southern end of the tunnel. This has a
total length of 4,800 metres, including the main tunnel which is of
2,400 metres long, 13 metres wide and 7.8 metres high. The emergency
tunnel is 2,400 metres long, 5.1 metres wide and 4.2 metres high.
The
work was carried out under strict supervision of Japanese consultant
firm Nippon Koei and US consultant firm Louis Berger and Vietnamese
consultant firm Tedi.
The
work was scheduled to be completed by October, 2003.
Song
Da Corporation has been awarded another 900 metres in the northern end
of the tunnel of the 1A package for further work, thanks to its quality
service performed for package 1B in the southern end of the tunnel. The
work includes 450 metres of main tunnel and 450 metres of emergency
tunnel, having similar sizes with the southern tunnels. This is for
technical completion and operation of the tunnel in October 2003.
