Scenic
Lang Co village will be protected from environmental and traffic problems
once a bypass for National Highway 1A is built, provincial authorities
have announced.
Thua Thien-Hue
Province and the Ministry of Transport's Project Management Unit 85
have agreed to build a bypass to re-route the highway around the village.
National
Highway 1A currently runs straight through Lang Co, which is situated
on the coast of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
The bypass
will begin at the northern foot of Hai Van Pass and run along the west
bank of Lap An Lagoon to join with the highway again just north of the
lagoon.
Construction
of the bypass will cost about VND200bil (US$13mil) and will be partly
funded by $10mil left from the Hai Van Pass Tunnel Project.
The Transport
Ministry and the Japan Bank for International Co-operation (which funded
the tunnel project) have agreed to use the left over money for the bypass.
