Hai
Van Tunnel (Vietnam) reaches halfway point
Date:
January 16, 2003
Just
2 years after ground was first broken on the Hai Van Pass Tunnel, the
project has passed the halfway mark, with 52% of construction work completed
by late 2002.
At the
south end of the tunnel, a Vietnamese/South Korean joint venture has
completed 1,700 meters of the main tunnel and 1,750 meters of the emergency
tunnel.
At the
north end a Vietnamese/Japanese joint venture has finished 2,050 meters
of the main tunnel and 2,030 meters of the emergency tunnel.
The contractors
have also completed 90% of the ventilation shaft.
The 12.18KM
Hai Van Pass Tunnel will connect LangCo in Thua Thien-Hue province with
DaNang.
LangCo
has a beautiful resort built on a spit of sand with tropical
resort houses built on it. It is truly special. The tunnel will eliminate
the treacherous section of Highway No. 1 that dates from the American
War
