The conclusion of a construction training course last Friday
is one more log in the fire of Japan-Viet Nam co-operation.
The course
was organised and led by Japanese construction experts who used their
experience with building and managing large-scale bridge, road and tunnel
projects as instruction material.
Two current
projects the Hai Van Mountain Pass Road Tunnel, being constructed
by HAZAMA group, and the Kien Bridge construction in Hai Phong City,
undertaken by SUMITOMO - served as examples for the course.
"This
is a very good chance for builders of Vietnamese traffic projects to
learn advanced management knowledge, and apply it for the future, including
the Thanh Tri Bridge, the biggest bridge ever crossing the Hong (Red)
River," said Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Viet Tien at the
opening session of the course.
Besides
classroom instruction in Ha Noi, the course concluded with a visit to
the Kien Bridge construction site in Hai Phong City so that the 100-strong
group of participants could have a better image of the standards they
should strive to attain in their projects.
Tien said
that both State and private construction companies in Viet Nam have
not paid enough attention to construction site management, which has
hampered the effectiveness of these crucial building projects. He hoped
the highly placed managers, technicians and engineers would take note
of the lessons in site organisation.
The Viet
Nam Bridge and Road Association (VIBRA) and the Overseas Construction
Association of Japan, Inc (OCAJI) oversaw the organisation of the course,
also under the sponsorship of Japans Ministry of Land Infrastructure
and Transport. VNS
